We chatted with Dimitra, making Jewelry from Greece at her shop Dimi Ciar.
Tell us your story
My name is Dimitra and I was born in a small town in Greece. I am a woman with a deep need for creativity that came up from my early stages of life when I was painting designs on my mom's walls (laughing)... Since then I was creating thinks with my hands and I was always carrying a bag of laces, beads, and fabrics.
Along with my studies in Greek literature I attended seminars of handmade jewelry and I created a small studio that I could work in peace having my fantasy as a company.
I believe a metal can be playful like clay, and that is my intention when I am designing my jewelry, deep down in my mind I have a fanciful necklace and in my hands a silver plaque. Everything starts from my desire to wear that I make and this has elegance and style and is special.
When did you turn your craft into a business?
The truth is that creating jewels started like a hobby and I never thought that I would have such a great perspective. First I was creating jewelry for my friends a family, but soon enough started to have a big influence among others, so I start a blog on the internet. Now now I am running a facebook page with Etsy. From now on you can find me on Instagram too.
How did you come up with a name for your store?
That was the fun part and the easiest. When you are thinking a brand name the simplest way is to think your name. So I decided to make a makeover to my name and create something unique. So Dimi Ciar is a shortcut from....me!!! (hahahaha).
How did you start selling on Etsy?
As I said my family and my best friends gave me the courage to start. All I was needed was a camera and a huge step inside me. I am so glad I made that step....the inspiration keeps on especially now that i have the opportunity to share it with the world.
Do you talk to your customers? Do you run your website or blog, social media?
Communicating with customers is an important process cause I want to learn more about people and get to know them better. It's something that started systematically last year and I think it's a way to build a better relationship with the customers. It is also a new lesson for me, as I have never been involved with the marketing. It inspires boho style, jewelry with precious stones, necklace with many chains. This year I started to make wedding jewelry as well. A pendant with stone topaz can reveal the beauty of the bride and make her stand out and that is my personal signature for all my designs. You can find me at Etsy: Dimi Ciar, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.
What’s your most favorite product?
I love rings. Especially I love a bunch rings. Rings in all my fingers. Double rings. The rings with precious stones. Rings combined with chains. As you can imagine I love the word "rings".
What are your future goals?
Ι would like Etsy to be a means of promoting my creations. But that still needs a lot of work. I like to bring to life all the imagination that comes up in my head, to give vitality to the silver. I like to inspire people and get inspired by them. Create something beautiful for them. It is a movement of creativity.
Where and when do you find yourself most creatively inspired?
I draw inspiration from what is around me. From shapes, colors, buildings, flowers. Even by words. This is what helps me with my studies in Greek philology. Greek language and mythology, ancient Greek jewelry is a world of inspiration built into modern times. As you will see in my store there are several designs in ancient Greek style.
